Virtual Hug

Hi friends. I don’t have a crafty update at the moment. I just wanted to let you know that I’m thinking of all of you as we all deal with this unprecedented event.  I am very aware of my privilege as I say that I worry about keeping my pantry stocked for the first time in my life, as our grocery stores are being completely emptied of essentials (and also toilet paper…and water?? Unless the virus gets sentient and takes out everyone working at the water treatment plants, I think we’ll still have water…but I digress).

Just take care of yourself at this time.  As always, I’m encouraged by everyone rallying together to try and stop the spread of this virus. I’m very frustrated by our administration’s response to this, and if anything, COVID19 reveals the many gaps in our country’s safety net.  I am able to work from home if I wanted to, and though I worry about food supplies for the next several weeks, I know we’ll be okay.  There are so many people who don’t have that luxury, so many students who rely on free lunches from their school districts.  Parents that don’t have childcare resources to have to watch their children as schools close.  Employees who don’t have the luxury of working from home or who work in the gig economy and don’t have paid health leave.  As of right now, Indiana has 24 cases but only tested 139 people. 139 people!  I’m sure there are way more people infected.

Of course, I’m bummed that trips and concerts are being canceled, but completely support these decisions.

I hope you are all doing well and taking care of yourself.  Sending you all big hugs.  As soon as work gets less overwhelming (it’s a good distraction though), I’ll be back to my (ir)regularly scheduled crafty updates 🙂 Take care, friends.

  1. Thank you, and here’s a hug back to you! It’s definitely a little scary right now. I usually keep a week’s worth of meat in our freezer, so we’ll be fine for this week, and hopefully the stores will be restocked by the end of the week. And even with that, we have things we can eat, so we won’t starve. Fingers crossed all our social distancing helps a little!
